"Basic for a high price"
The hotel has a shabby feel to it. The room we had was stated as deluxe double. If this was deluxe I would hate to see the standard version. The furniture in the rooms had a 'distressed look' with the emphasis on the distressed. The hotel did not have a friendly feel to it. Watch out for the restaurant evening meals. They are quite expensive yet the hotel still has the nerve to charge a 12.5% service charge on top of its prices. Breakfast has poor. Sorry, last fist to this hotel. Read less

THE GEORGE is an inn with history serving its first customers from 1789 . A victim of the devastating floods of 1953, home to the inaugural meeting of the Norfolk Naturalist Trust and a focal point for bird watchers for many years thanks to its ‘bird bible’, it sits imposingly over the salt marshes looking out toward Blakeney Harbour.

All the bedrooms on the first and second floor have all been newly refurbished with new bathrooms installed. On the first floor rooms 3, 4 and 5 are particularly spacious with wonderful views over the marshes towards Blakeney Point.

Our restaurant was refurbished in April 2014 and locally we have developed a good reputation for locally sourced food with an interesting and varied menu with daily specials. We serve 4 local ales which keeps the beer connossieur happy and of course our cellar is cask marque rated.

Dogs are welcome in the bar and front restaurant, (we keep the back restaurant dog free), we have a great kiddies menu and on the cold Autumn/ winter days we have a roaring open fire going to warm up the cockles of your heart.
Tranquility is on the doorstep, thanks to the huge skies, acres of colourful salt-marsh and mile-upon-mile of un-spoilt beaches that are also a haven for wildlife.

Here at Cley-next-the-Sea, with it’s narrow roads, no street lights and a traditional red phone-box, you will find a beautiful, idyllic, north Norfolk brick and flint village that is bursting with character and filled with local culture. No wonder so many people are enchanted by this stretch of coastline.
