Bedale is a traditional Yorkshire market town mentioned in the Domesday Book. Its Georgian heyday is reflected in the elegant buildings lining the historic market square. The 12th century church, St Gregory’s, has been named as one of Britain’s best. Bedale lies a mile to the west of the A1 from the Leeming Bar/A684 junction. The A684 is signposted to Bedale and Leyburn. The A1 runs north to Newcastle and Darlington, and south to Leeds. The A684 runs through Bedale from Northallerton to the east and Leyburn to the west.
