Ham and Cheese was a welcome surprise. We decided to stay there for the evening for its central location. The staff was extremely friendly and went the extra mile to please their guests and patrons. The owners have put their hearts into this pub. Breakfast was excellent and all the food was locally sourced. The room (#3) was extremely clean and stocked with tea and fresh linens. Wifi was also included. Read less

Stayed overnight the night before my son's Graduation from York University. Midway between York and Scarborough, with several attractions such as Eden Camp, Flamingoland, Castle Howard nearby. We had two rooms (3&4) with a small linking area between them. A comfortable king size and single bed in each. Clean linen, tea, coffee and free Wi-fi provided. It's also set in a lovely, peaceful little village Read less

The landlord, landlady and staff are very welcoming. It's easy to get to and from, and very relaxing.
If you like a quiet drink to wind down after a long day, you don't have to go anywhere else!

The Ham and Cheese Country Inn dates back to 1907 and before this time was one of the first farm shops in the country. Local farmers used to bring their produce to sell here and it is believed that the inn takes its unique name from this time. We are situated in the quiet village of Scagglethorpe, 2 miles from the market town of Malton. We are just off the A64, 18 miles either way to either York or Scarborough.

The Inn is proud of its reputation for good quality home cooked food, real ales and log fire. Accommodation is above a quiet, traditional public house and restaurant offering superb bar meals, a la carte menu, real ales from the bar and a lovely log fire. The Ham & Cheese offers 4 ensuite rooms on a Bed & Breakfast basis and has rooms available for single, double, twin or family occupancy.

The attractive market town of Malton has been the historic centre of Ryedale since Roman times. Situated on the river Derwent, it is an ideal location for discovering the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside. The city of York, the Coast, the Wolds and the North Yorkshire Moors, are all within easy reach of Malton.

All the fun of the fair can be found at Flamingo Land theme park and zoo, with exciting rides to suit everyone, ranging from the 'Terroriser' and the 'Bullet' to the traditional Carousel. There are over one thousand animals to see in the zoo, a real family pleaser. The museum, located in the Old Town Hall contains an impressive display of Roman artefacts found in and around Malton's Derventio Fort. See displays showing how Roman centurions and civillians lived, or visit the actual site of Derventio in Orchard Fields. Malton has a selection of shops as well as a host of hotels, cafes, restaurants and pubs, all keen to extend the typical Yorkshire welcome. The spectacular Castle Howard, known world-wide as the location for the popular BBC television series, 'Brideshead Revisited', is very close
