Likes:
Friendly, helpful staff. Nice, average sized rooms, clean furnishings and equipped with basic equipment.
Easy Wi-Fi access.
Small menu for evening meals but good tasty food. Popular with locals.
Dislikes:
Noisey drinkers/smokers outside front door at picnic benches, which was beneath our room window.
There until at least 1.30 am on the Saturday night, hot night so needed windows open.Ok on Sunday nigh

The Ham and Cheese dates back to 1907 and before this time was one of the first farm shops in the country. Local farmers used to bring their produce to sell here and it is believed that the inn takes its unique name from this time. We are situated in the quiet village of Scagglethorpe, 2miles from the market town of Malton. We are just off the A64,20 miles either way to either York or Scarborough.

The Inn is proud of its reputation for good quality home cooked food, real ales and log fire. Accommodation is above a quiet, traditional public house and restaurant offering superb bar meals, a la carte menu, real ales from the bar and a lovely log fire. The Ham & Cheese offers 8 ensuite rooms on a Bed & Breakfast basis and has rooms available for single, double, twin or family occupancy 4 of which are above the Pub & 4 within our newly refurbished annex Whitethorns.

The attractive market town of Malton has been the historic centre of Ryedale since Roman times. Situated on the river Derwent, it is an ideal location for discovering the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside. The city of York, the Coast, the Wolds and the North Yorkshire Moors, are all within easy reach of Malton.

All the fun of the fair can be found at Flamingo Land theme park and zoo, with exciting rides to suit everyone, ranging from the 'Terroriser' and the 'Bullet' to the traditional Carousel. There are over one thousand animals to see in the zoo, a real family pleaser. The museum, located in the Old Town Hall contains an impressive display of Roman artefacts found in and around Malton's Derventio Fort. See displays showing how Roman centurions and civillians lived, or visit the actual site of Derventio in Orchard Fields. Malton has a selection of shops as well as a host of hotels, cafes, restaurants and pubs, all keen to extend the typical Yorkshire welcome. The spectacular Castle Howard, known world-wide as the location for the popular BBC television series, 'Brideshead Revisited', is very close
