"Great place to stay while walking Cleveland Way"
4 of us arrived on foot from Whitby, and the fifth brought the car and luggage. Warmly welcomed. Light, spacious rooms, with good bathrooms.
We chose to stay here partly to eat at the restaurant which we discovered was not open on the night we were there, but our host booked us in to Cleveland Corner bistro just along the road which was excellent.
The lower village of Staithes is charming. Very limited parking but we were guided to a private car park at the top of the hill which worked well Read less
Likes:
Peaceful (apart from the inevitable seagulls) and attractive location. Friendly and helpful host. Nice, comfortable rooms. Excellent cooked breakfast and coffee.
Dislikes:
Some of us had to go down to the office area to get adequate wifi reception, because of the age of the building. Slightly surprised that breakfast did not include fruit/cereal.

We did not know the restaurant had changed hands since booking and feel we should have been informed and given the option of cancelling. As it was the meal fell wildly short of our expectation

This small picturesque fishing village of Staithes, once the largest fishing port in the north of England, was home to 80 traditional fishing boats or “cobbles”. The tradition continues with several working boats operating from the harbour.

Staithes is also home to the word famous “Staithes Group” or “Northern Impressionists” who were drawn by the unique quality of light and picturesque working fishing village.
This tradition continues with several working artists living and exhibiting in the village as well as at The Staithes Art Gallery.

The Captain Cook Museum in Staithes celebrates James Cooks connection with the village that was his home as an apprentice and where he first got his passion and love for the sea, before travelling 11 miles to Whitby to join the Navy.
