General ambience very good.
Large warm very comfortable room, excellent food,
The luxury touches-very good ground coffee in room. Bucks Fizz at breakfast and excellent food really spoiled us!
Dislikes:
Low beams in Field cottage. 6ft husband took care but 5ft 3" wife cracked head.Given choice would have chosen another room.
Constant all night fan/ motor? noise annoying at times.

Great food, friendly service and nice rooms.
Dislikes:
Had asked for a cot and rang up to confirm that we would have one in our room, only to be a few hours beforehand that there wasn't a cot available, so our daughter had to sleep in our bed.

Likes:
Excellent dinner from a good menu with interesting specials on the board; stuck for choice. Rose Cottage very comfortable. Staff very competent, friendly and relaxed (in the best way, they kept busy!)
Dislikes:
"Not liking" is a bit OTT, but it would be handy if the great shower in Rose Cottage had a shelf fitted to its wall to put all the shower bits and bobs that some of us need! e.g. soap.

The Durham Ox is a traditional 300-year old pub, family owned for the last twelve years. We are situated in the historic village of Crayke, North Yorkshire, with breath-taking views over the vale of York on three sides, and a charming view up the hill to the medieval Church. Crayke is less than 25 minutes from York City Centre and in the heart of Herriot Country.
The Durham Ox offers comfortable surroundings without recourse to trendy fixtures and fittings. The bar area has original flag stones on the floor and on the walls, oak panels fitted by the local woodcarver as well as a bar that bears his name still take pride of place. With a roaring fire alight in the inglenook fireplace in winter and an outside balcony for summer dining the pub oozes atmosphere.

Five of the cottages are converted farm buildings. The two Junior Cottages offer a double room with en suite wet room, seating area, tea and coffee making facilities and H2K products. In addition the Large Cottage is spread over two floors with two large bedrooms, one double and one twin, with ensuite bathroom and separate shower, relaxed sitting room and a gallery kitchen. The Superior Suites are doubles with super king size beds and have bathrooms with a bath and separate shower. The Studio Suite is located above the pub and offers spacious luxury accommodation for two adults with 600sq feet of space, a super king bed, en suite bathroom, sofas, flat screen television, kitchen and honesty bar.

A private dining area and sitting room for parties up to sixteen offers a comfortable yet smart additional dining option.
Our new Barn room offers a fantastic venue for events up to a hundred guests. We are happy to create bespoke events in the Barn, which can also be used as a conference facility.

The Durham Ox embraces the principle of good food in relaxed surroundings and we have always endeavoured to use the freshest and best of ingredients, bought locally.
