"Overnight stay while visiting Norhumberland."
Stayed in the Anchor overnight, very nice location on the banks of the South Tyne. Staff were very friendly, the food was excellent with a fantastic full English breakfast. The rooms were slightly dated but adequate, having said that we had a good nights sleep. The bar was pleasant, and had live music and a B.B.Q on the night we stayed. Read less

The location and views of the river. Friendliness of the staff and the locals. The food was of a very high quality, our complements to the chef.
Dislikes:
Would have liked a nice hand pulled ale at the bar, only free flow available.

The Anchor is a charming characterful attractive Grade 11 listed hotel, pub and restaurant located on a picturesque riverside location on the banks of the Tyne. Only 5 minutes away from Langley Castle.
The menu at the Anchor offers a quality selection of British dishes loving made with locally sourced ingredients. The extensive menu offers 3 course meals as well as lighter snacks and sharing platters washed down with hand pulled ales, beers and lagers spirits or a glass of wine.
Situated on the Bridge of Haydon Bridge (which originally dates back to the 1300's). The Anchor Hotel is a building steeped in history and it has been a Hotel in various guises for many years. Originating as a Jacobite Cross relating to medieval settlements, the Roman occupation and Jacobite revolutions the Hotel was also once a court house complete with hanging facilities outside in what is now the car park and garden.
The hotel rises out of the river Tyne enjoying a perfect position for direct access to the river, and lovely views. The salmon leap over the weir and sandy beaches and swimming holes are also at this point. Whatever the weather there is a good vantage point and a lovely aspect watching the river rage in flood in the winter or paddling in calmer waters.
The Hotel has a very friendly cosy bar and lounge. Or in finer weather enjoy the river views in our alfresco decking area.

Food is freshly prepared and served Mon-Sat noon 'til nine. our legendary Snday lunch is served 12 until 'sold out', (around 6pm.)
We cater for functions and meetings and have private rooms for your special occasions, which we will tailor to suit your wishes.

The hotel has nine rooms and is ideally located for exploring Northumberland's wonderful countryside.

We are surrounded by Heritage sites including Hadrian's Wall, National Trust Properties, The Lake District, the coast and castles of Northumberland as well as The Metro Centre shopping experience all within an easy drive or train ride.
