"visit to Hadrian's wall"
we stayed 3 nights at this pub/hotel. Room and bathroom were simple but clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very good, above the standard you would expect for the grade of accommodation. The present owners are gradually upgrading the facilities. I have two suggestions: there could be a wider range of starters available for the evening meal and one or more real ales would be great.
Overall a good place to stay that represents good value for money. Read less

"Friendly and comfortable hotel"
I stayed two nights for the purpose of visiting nearby Hadrian's Wall. On the first night, I had dinner at the hotel; on the second (Sunday), I returned too late and the kitchen was already closed. However, the staff advised me to order food from the Tandoori across the street (it was quite good), and allowed me to eat in the hotel's bar room, using their plate and cutlery. I really appreciated that. Read less

It's really a very nice and friendly hotel. The food is excellent. The location is peaceful and quiet.
Dislikes:
The hotel folder had information about WiFi access, but I could not locate the named network, and none of the networks that my laptop could find would accept the access key named in the folder.

The Anchor is a charming characterful attractive Grade 11 listed hotel, pub and restaurant located on a picturesque riverside location on the banks of the Tyne. Only 5 minutes away from Langley Castle.
The menu at the Anchor offers a quality selection of British dishes loving made with locally sourced ingredients. The extensive menu offers 3 course meals as well as lighter snacks and sharing platters washed down with hand pulled ales, beers and lagers spirits or a glass of wine.
Situated on the Bridge of Haydon Bridge (which originally dates back to the 1300's). The Anchor Hotel is a building steeped in history and it has been a Hotel in various guises for many years. Originating as a Jacobite Cross relating to medieval settlements, the Roman occupation and Jacobite revolutions the Hotel was also once a court house complete with hanging facilities outside in what is now the car park and garden.
The hotel rises out of the river Tyne enjoying a perfect position for direct access to the river, and lovely views. The salmon leap over the weir and sandy beaches and swimming holes are also at this point. Whatever the weather there is a good vantage point and a lovely aspect watching the river rage in flood in the winter or paddling in calmer waters.
