"Magical and Wonderful"
This is possibly the most magical place on Earth! The hotel is family run, with warm friendliness and so welcoming. The building us full of history over a number of periods. The grounds are beautiful and the setting idyllic. We keep coming back as we love the place and we love the people. We feel like family coming home now. The food is also excellent, and I would always recommend the 'Special' for evening meal because it is beautifully and carefully prepared ready just for us there. We love it. Read less

What is not to like?!
Dislikes:
Only that we always want more time there, we don't like leaving

"Quirky hidden jewel"
A lovely place full of character, with friendly staff, good food in the bar, a lovely big room, all set amidst fantastic countryside. Be prepared to sever contact with the outside world though - no mobile reception in the valley and the only wifi reception is in the bar. As the proprietor said - "even in Harbottle (the next village along) they don't know we're here". Read less

Walking, hiking, mountain biking, archery, birds of prey and fishing are some of the many activities that are connected to the hotel. Under brand new management since June 2012 and extensively refurbished, the large 13th Century attractive stone built hall creates an extremely comfortable well appointed country house, retaining many original architectural features. There is no mobile phone signal in the area, but free wi-fi is available at the hotel and there is a payphone. Some weekends there is musical entertainment in the bar.
