"Basic but reasonable"
We stayed here with our daughter and her family when going to a wedding. The pub was very quiet. We were a little concerned about potential noise from the bar, but this in reality was not a problem. The rooms are OK, but the landing needs a new carpet. It's a reasonable sto over but not necessarily somewhere for a short break. The village is pretty and whilst breakfast was not available the village shop, almost opposite, does good breakfast sandwiches and drinks. Read less

Staff lovely and friendly. Always willing to help and chatty.
Dislikes:
The extractor fan outside room window was incredibly loud. It would go off when the kitchen closed but until then constant load hum and room smelt of chips.

Visiting relatives nearby. The rooms and bed linen were clean but the overall impression was one of a place needing an update. The access from the back of the pub was not pleasant and at night there is no outside light.
The stairs were not clean. The bedside light didn't work and it was a bit noisy because of its position on the A697 but then all the other hotels nearby are the same. It seems it may be used mainly by workmen needing overnight accommodation. The staff, however, were excellent. Read less

The village of Longhorsley is situated seven miles northwest of Morpeth and 14 miles south from Alnwick. It is bordered on the north by the river Coquet and lies on the Morpeth to Wooler road [A 697]. The village formally lay in three separate townships, which were known as Bigge's Quarter, Freeholders Quarter and Riddells Quarter.

The Shoulder of Mutton is located close to the renowned Northumbrian coast, just 25 minutes from the buzzing city of Newcastle upon Tyne, 30 minutes from the Cheviot Hills and well within reach of Hadrians Wall if you fancied a day trip.

We are a charming, traditional country inn full of character. Our comfortable bar serves up a great range of food and drink or for something a bit special you can dine in 'The Boundary Restaurant' and choose from a huge selection of regional, national and international dishes.

Our rooms are simple, light and spacious with televisions and tea and coffee making facilities, and we offer a very competitive bed and breakfast rate.
