"This place is so dog friendly"
We have stayed here on numerous occasions when travelling with our dog. The staff now know our dog and always welcome using him very warmly.
We enjoyed a tasty meal in the bar and a reasonable nights sleep. Unfortunately room 3 has a wardrobe with a broken panel and a bathroom with a clear window looking out onto the main road which is only partially covered by a net curtain ! My wife did not feel able to use the shower as a result. I did and apologise to any passing motorists. Read less

Bathroom of room 3 needs a full blind to cover the window!

"Very good"
My husband and I stayed here for a night in November. Our aim was to walk 9 miles along the ridgeway, our room was excellent and comfortable. Following our walk which was easily accessed from the pub we returned to the pub via bus. For the evening we had an excellent 3 course meal and then settled for a drink at the bar. Following a very comfortable sleep we then had a full English breakfast again excellent. The staff were very friendly and would certainly recommend staying here. Read less

I have walked the Ridgeway many times over the years and this is the best overnight stay I have experienced. Thoughtful service, excellent food, and a lovely characterful building. If you're starting from Avebury or Overton, its a good 19 miles to Ashbury, but well worth it. Read less

Pleasant greeting from young lady behind the bar shown to room no info given on light, appliances or fire drill, room clean and welcoming good en-suite low flush toilet, basin and bath with plumbed shower at one end. We eat in the restaurant again same young lady very pleasant and helpful, we both had their soup of the day very good homemade tomato then both had their only steak option (rump) that came with slow roasted tomato, hand cut chips & rocket no extra veg to be had, then selected a sauc Read less

The pleasant greeting and service from the first lady, the clean and comforting room.
Dislikes:
The chewy steak, no hot water in the morning and the wrong checkout time on their online booking site.

Not even asked about breakfast this time which demonstrates my view that you don't really want to do breakfast.

I dido not have breakfast on this occasion as it is well overpriced for an unimpressive spread. Please use your imagination to match the rest of your offering.

The young couple who greeted us were really helpful and pleasant and went the extra mile to provide dinner as we had no transport and they don't usually have food on a Monday.
Dislikes:
The breakfast was somewhat paltry - mediocre quality bread for the toast, no cooked option (how hard is it to fry an egg?). The dinner was over priced. I think the pub overrates its food
