Pleasantly surprised at tasteful room decor, easy access from separate entrance so didn't need to use pub. bed was very comfortable Shower powerful. Public car park at the back which worked out free
Dislikes:
Would have liked food to have been served later but it was a vey quiet Monday night and none of the other pubs served past 8.30 even though they advertised till 9pm

The manager was friendly and promised unconditionally that the toilet lid, which kept falling against our back, would be fixed asap. He also ensured us that breakfast would be served next day.
Dislikes:
With other guests we were very upset to find ourselves without access to breakfast facilities.
It must have looked quite suspicious, us banging all 3 street doors, only to find the place unattended.
Response from The Red Lion:
There are now new managers - see the reviews for June 2014

The Red Lion in Faringdon is a traditional inn which enjoys a picturesque location in Oxfordshire. The Red Lion offers 3 ensuite bedrooms for double or single occupancy. The Red Lion is situated in the historic marketplace of Faringdon in rural Oxfordshire 20 miles South West of Oxford. Faringdon, which was granted Fairtrade Town status in 2004, is the ideal base to begin exploring local attractions including the 3000 year old Vale of the White Horse and The Cotswold Wildlife Park as well as a variety of different museums and plenty of beautiful English scenery.

Faringdon has panoramic views from its pretty perch on a golden limestone ridge between two beautiful river valleys, the Ock and the Thames. Its prominent position at the junction of ancient roads made it a historic centre for trade and travellers.

For centuries Faringdon's hotels have been welcoming visitors. It has an interesting variety of restaurants and shops and a market on Tuesdays. Faringdon makes a delightful holiday base for the threshold of the Cotswolds, with Oxford and Swindon only a half-hour drive away in either direction. From Faringdon you can enjoy exploring four of England's most beautiful counties - Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

A few moments stroll from the centre of Faringdon leads to open fields and a network of footpaths. A short ride takes you to two national trails - The Thames Path and The Ridgeway and a variety of themed walks such as Willow Walk. The National Trust properties of Buscot Park and Ashdown House are close by. Just across the River Thames is Kelmscott Manor, the summer home of the artist William Morris.
