We had dropped our son off at Heathrow and were looking for somewhere nearby bu out of London to stay before returning home to the Peak District. The Baskerville was a great option. In a quiet location near the Thames and the Chilterns, yet under an hour's drive from Heathrow. We visited the nearby National Trust property at Grey's Court that afternoon before checking in. Then had dinner and a good night's sleep, refreshed for our return journey. Read less

The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and well equipped and the en suite shower/toilet was spotless. The dinner and breakfast were excellent.
Dislikes:
This is a pub with rooms, not a purpose built hotel, so there was a bit of noise from the bar/restaurant (but it was a Tuesday night, so perfectly OK). We have bad backs, so the beds were a bit hard.

We stayed a couple of nights while visiting friends. We had no real idea what to expect of the Baskerville, so were very happy to be received by friendly welcoming staff who remained friendly throughout our stay, even during a very busy evening in the restaurant. Read less

The food: very imaginative and very well presented.
Dislikes:
We slipped around on the floor of the bathroom, but then we heard that they are planning to revamp the bathrooms, so all is forgiven!

With well appointed, en-suite old English styled rooms featuring luxury pocket sprung single and king size beds, The Baskerville is the perfect place to wine, dine and stay the night whether for business or pleasure.

The bar with its rugby memorabilia offers 4 cask ales, 40 malt whiskies, 10 Gins and 70 wines and is the ideal place to meet the locals or simply to relax with the newspaper. Cool in the summer and cosy in the winter with roaring log fires.

The restaurant " Oxfordshires Restaurant of the Year 2016 " with an "AA Rosette" and voted "Silver in Best Tourism Pub of the Year 2017", It has outstanding customer service, only matched by its creative and seasonally changing menus. Fresh, ethically and locally sourced produce lie at the heart of its modern but classically based dishes which offer a memorable dining experience.

The small town of Henley-on-Thames with its many interesting shops and home to the Henley Royal Regatta and the Henley Festival is only 2 miles away. Enjoy a boat trip up the Thames or visit the River and Rowing Museum. Try a night at the Kenton theatre, the fourth oldest in England. Within the village why not stroll along to Shiplake lock and watch the river cruisers pass through. A little further up the hill is the 13th century parish church of St Mary's where Alfred Lord Tennyson was married.
Further afield are the towns of Reading 7 miles, Windsor, with its castle, and nearby Legoland. 15 miles, and the university town of Oxford, 22 miles. All of these can be reached by train from Shiplake station via Twyford on First Great Western trains. Feeling a little more adventurous? Paddington station is less than an hour away with all that London can offer.
