"Fabulous dinner!"
We stayed just one night. We were exploring the area on our bikes so enjoyed a couple of days pedalling around some very pretty countryside before arriving at Barley Bree.
We enjoyed a great dinner in the lovely cosy restaurant. The amuse bouche, with cheese tartlet, deserves a special mention, as does the bread. The starters and mains were delicious, with such attention to detail and presentation. We chose the very tasty Macedonian red, as we had never tried wine from this part of the world. Read less

The highlight was definitely the food. Dinner was fantastic! Even the bread (homemade) was outstanding. In fact, if the restaurant offered bread making courses we would definitely book! We'll return!
Dislikes:
Noise of extractor fan in bathroom - but no big deal.

"relaxation"
Muthill is a tiny typical farming village surrounded by glorious countryside and the Barley Bree makes the most of it. Locally sourced and well researched prime produce cooked to a very high standard in an old coaching inn and served in front of blazing fires in the old stables. Very atmospheric but contemporary. The room (room 1) was spacious, well appointed with a large en suite, perfect for chilling out in. Loved it, every delicious moment of it! Read less

At Barley Bree, the classically-trained French chef, Fabrice Bouteloup, uses Scottish produce to its full advantage, in a seasonal menu that changes several times a week.

Game, local lamb and beef, chanterelles and wild garlic from the nearby woods and luscious local soft fruits all make an appearance. His bread is almost as famous as his Tarte Tatin, which is a permanent fixture.

His wife Alison Bouteloup's background is in the wine industry and she has chosen the restaurant's highly regarded list.

Barley Bree is the ideal base for a golfing, walking, fishing or shooting break. There is a locked gun cupboard and a drying room. Late breakfasts and packed lunches are not a problem. The world class courses of Gleneagles are just 9 miles from Muthill and there are numerous other courses in the area. The Perthshire countryside is perfect for gentle ambling or serious hiking. There is coarse fishing, fly fishing and even sea angling close at hand, as well as rough shooting, driven shoots and stalking. Bring home a fine bag and Fabrice will even cook it for your dinner.

Please note the restaurant is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. A room reservation made online does not guarantee a table in the restaurant - please email us to request a table reservation. Also although we can offer free wifi, we are out in the countryside, it does not always work (it is a bit unreliable).
