great location and leaving hotel
Dislikes:
disappointing. Food smells (fry ups) in corridor and room. No heating on in room. Towel rail on floor with screws pointing up (there was an apologetic sign). Pub toilets right outside family room.

Melrose is situated in the heart of the Scottish Borders. The town is skirted by the River Tweed and sheltered by the triple peaks of the Eildon Hills. The name Melrose is derived from a Cumbric (an early form of Welsh) word for Moelros and means "bare moor" or "bare promontory". Melrose is in a perfect location for the visitor and local alike to enjoy the beauty and peace of the Borders.

Melrose has an extensive range of shops and excellent local services. It also has a rich history, with architectural attractions, museums and exhibitions including the oldest continuously inhabited village in Scotland.

A visit to the Scottish Borders is to experience Scotland at its traditional best. The Borders is a land of beautiful landscapes where wild upland hills give way to green and pleasant valleys on a journey to the sea. They offer outstanding facilities for cycling, hill walking, driving and bird watching. A visit to the Scottish Borders is to experience Scotland at its traditional best.
