"Excellent Value for Money"
One night stay, excellent central location which happened to be just a few hundred yard from the venue I was going to for a gig. The room was very spacious and well equipped if a little tired looking. The window did not close fully so as to shut out the sound noisy revellers but overall this wasn't too much of a problem as it didn't go on too long. Didn't spend any time in the pub itself other than for breakfast the next morning. Was offered a free ticket to comedy event on the night I stayed. Read less
Likes:
The friendly welcome & helpfulness of the staff on my arrival. Both room and en suite very spacious which was great and the breakfast was fulsome, filling and enjoyable. Excellent location.
Dislikes:
The room and en-suite were a bit on the cool side so a bit more heat would have been nice especially first thing in the morning. Also room was somewhat draughty due to the non closing window.

Dislikes:
If staying Friday or Saturday nights check website for live band info. Was very noisy - next time I will ask for a quiet room.
Staircases could present problem to anyone with limited mobility.

The Old Post Office is a traditional family pub & hotel. We serve an excellent new menu throughout the day. Click on the Menu Link for the full menu and details on booking a table. For more information on accommodation please click on the link.

The Old Post Office dates from the 16th Century and is the last of 5 public houses that were licensed in Milk Street. The others were The Angel, The Beehive, The Mug House and The Sun Tavern. The Old Post Office has kept the same name throughout it's history. The has nothing to do with The Royal Mail, but refers to a posting house horse-drawn coaches and as late as 1900 there was stabling for thirteen horses. Wagons to Lyth Hill, Condover, Ryton and Wheathall would depart the inn on Wednesdays and Saturdays of each week.

The pub currently has six hotel rooms and a function room which is available for private parties as well as playing host to a wide variety of live music events. The building is Grade II Listed and many features of the original building still remain. The pub maintains it's reputation for excellence with a wide range of traditional cask ales and home-cooked food.
