Likes:
Convenience, breakfast, freindlyness of staff, clearly more improvements to come. New landlord appears clued-up. Great for muddy outdoor types, hot strong showers and warm rooms.
Dislikes:
Is about to undergo updating after years of only maintainance - needs the improvement. Bed springy like a trampoline and night time room so hot had to have window open.

Likes:
Location was really good, nice garden on riverbank, unfortunatly weather was not good enough to enjoy.
Dislikes:
Booking in on paperwork said from 1400, arrived at 1615 to find it closed until 1730.We then waited over an hour for our evening meal which with only 6 tables in use seemed excessive.

This enduring inn has a rich past and a firm place in local history. Over the last 400 years The Anchor Inn has played host to travellers of all kinds, from the loftiest of noblemen to the highwaymen that sought to lighten their purses. The inn also entertained the celebrated English novelist R.D. Blackmore in the 19th century and features in his classic "Lorna Doone".
Of course the march of time has seen the inn modernised but we offer our patrons a rich old-world atmosphere alongside quality food, the finest ales and comfortable accommodation. The extensive riverside garden makes the inn ideal for families and pet owners and our excellent location on the river Exe is unbeatable for anglers wishing to take advantage of the abundant waters.
The Anchor Inn is located in one the most outstanding areas of natural beauty in the country. Exmoor is one of only 15 areas in the United Kingdom to be designated as a National Park, safeguarding it for current and future generations with the highest possible level of landscape protection. The park encompasses 267 square miles of Devon and Somerset including 34 miles of the most unspoilt coastline anywhere in the country. It has been estimated that if you were to walk these 34 miles, waiting as necessary for tides low enough to cross access points, it would take you approximately 5 years! In addition to its National Park status, it is also designated as an Environmentally Sensitive Area and contains several Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
