"This restaurant-with-rooms is missing a trick"
This is a fine restaurant/B&B but with a bit more attention to detail it could be a lovely boutique hotel. For example, they trade primarily as a restaurant, but there was no fresh fruit with breakfast, and they have cellophane-wrapped biscuits and Nescafe in the rooms rather than handmade cookies and a cafetiere. The room was large & pretty but needed maintaining, freshening up and a more personal touch. The Culbone is managed by a young couple who have yet to discover what makes a stay special Read less
Likes:
The place is nice, the welcome was warm, and my premium double was very spacious and comfortable.
Dislikes:
Given the prices in the restaurant, I was disappointed: my locally-produced steak was gristly/chewy (although the sauce was delicious). And even though I'd booked a room, they hadn't saved me a table.

Likes:
Beautiful location with the high points of the hotel being its breakfast and friendly staff.
Dislikes:
The room was tired and very dirty, there was a profusion of insect bodies in both the bedroom and bathroom coupled with old and active spiders webs, in short both rooms were dirty and tired.

Our dream was to find a Restaurant with views of Exmoor, that was as beautiful as the quality of the local produce. When we saw The Culbone, we knew it was time to start work.

We source the best local produce from nearby farms, and start work on our community garden and allotment soon. We are really proud that our local team are developing their careers, at The Culbone. Warm, knowledgeable service is just as important as the food, and a good night’s sleep to us.

Relax and unwind while you enjoy the stunning views from our peaceful bedrooms, and outside dining area. The seasonal views of the Valley and Moors are breathtaking (the coastal mist adds real magic to the landscape). Lush green in the spring and summer and full of character and action in autumn and winter. Partridge, pheasant and deer are our companions in the milder months, with wild Exmoor ponies roaming the moors nearby all year round.

Staying at The Culbone is a great way to experience life on Exmoor. Whether staying with us for a weekend food safari, a mid-week break or visiting us for dinner, we will ensure your time with us is memorable.
