Norton St Philip,

Somerset,

BA2 7LH,  United Kingdom
The George Inn is just six miles south of Bath and has offered hospitality to weary wanderers for over 700 years. It is one of the oldest Inns in England and reputed to be the longest continuously licenced premises in the country. This Grade 1 listed building still retains all it's character, charm & quirkiness with open fires & a warm welcome. The Plaine Guesthouse also forms part of the accommodation offer in Norton St Philip and so you may be directed to those rooms once the George is full.

Likes:
The coaching inn itself was beautiful and the food was excellent. The service is very personal and nothing was too much trouble.
Dislikes:
It was a shame there were no rooms left in the Inn itself and we had to stay in the more modern accomodation opposite but these rooms were clean and tidy and tastefully furnished so all was good.

Likes:
Lovely room. Good food.
Dislikes:
Staff attitudes a little mixed. We were told breakfast was at 8 am when actually it was from 8.30 - quite different. At dinner, wine bottle just left on the table - unusual not to have it poured.
Response from The George Inn:
Really sorry that you were not advised of the correct times. I have already sent out a team email with the correct timing of breakfast for everyone as I think it was flagged by yourself on the day.
With regard to the wine pouring, thank you for your comment and I will speak to my team to ensure that they guests are asked if they would like it poured.
I hope that this has not put you off returning to stay with us.

Fourteen minutes from Bath and set in rolling green, Somerset hills, this 700 year old inn has much to delight - it is a feast for the eyes and boasts every traditional comfort.
Character bedrooms with beams and antique furniture, cosy bars, an ancient galleried courtyard, and wonderful food (We strive to source our produce locally and endeavor to make everything here on site) served in a choice of beamed dining rooms. The George, a grade one star listed building is situated in an idyllic setting with beautiful views. Our garden overlooks the village church against a backdrop of un-spoilt rural scenery. In the adjoining field there is a children’s playground. The Plaine Guesthouse also forms part of the business and has been refurbished in a contemporary style and the six rooms have been added to the accommodation offer in Norton St Philip. Should the rooms at the George is reserved you will be directed to the rooms at the Plaine. The Plaine does not accept dogs.
Norton St Philip village is a real find as it has come through the centuries remarkably undisturbed. Architecturally, you can see mullion windows, stone-tiled roofs and the local stone facings of the cottages. There are medieval buildings and a number of cottages built in 17th and 18th centuries.
The local country side is intersected by footpaths and bridleways which are great for walks and discovering our local wildlife.
The George is dog friendly, and there is a small charge of £10 extra for them to stay with you in our wooden floored rooms.
The George Inn and the Plaine are in a stunning setting and a perfect location for a varied and interesting break.
Safety: The George Inn is over 700 years old, we ask you to take care as there are many low beams and uneven and cobbled floors.
