"A unique comfortable overnight stay"
Party of 5, Mum Dad and adult children, driving down from Manchester to visit family in Devon. We decided to break our journey to explore Wells Cathedral and Shepton Mallet Designer outlets, booking ahead we found this impressive looking hotel placed strategically between the two. We arrived and were greeted and showed to our rooms. We had pre-meal drinks in the small but well stocked bar, the draught Peroni kept the lads happy, gin the girls, whilst looking at the menus. We were overwhelmed by this accommodation. The best stay of our vacation in southwestern UK. Recent updates to the rooms give a modern feel to the historic home, ensuring modern comforts of this century while retaining the feel of the setting.

Breakfast was absolutely wonderful! The traditional English was excellent, but the eggs Benedict are a must for the hollandaise sauce. Best I have ever had.

This home should it be missed on its own merit and its inviting hosts. It is centrally loca Read less

Bowlish House offers you a home from home without the hassle, but with a warm and friendly welcome. Each bedroom has its own style whilst retaining the original character of the house. There is a fully licensed restaurant to enjoy the taste of the West. Dinner is available Monday to Saturday evenings on a pre-booking basis but unfortunately the dining room does not open on Sunday night.

It is close to the Mendip hills, the cathedral city of Wells, Glastonbury, Wookey Hole, Cheddar and 18 miles from Bath.

This Georgian Palladian house, classed as Grade II*, has various features of special interest – the original Mendip lead drainpipes at the front carry the crest of the original owners and the year of completion, 1732. The walls and pillars topped with urns which formed the entrance of the old gardens are also singled out for specific mention.

A small spring rises under the cellar of Bowlish House and links up with an underground stream routed diagonally across the cellar floor just under the old flagstones. Thus the temperature of the large cellars is more constant than otherwise and varies by no more than 2 or 3 degrees either side of the ideal 50 ºF.

Bowlish House is an interesting and peaceful location in which to escape and enjoy top quality food, or to get away from it all with friends and family.
