"Proper pub with guest rooms in town centre with friendly staff"
If you are looking for the sort of anonymous accommodation where no-one speaks to you then stay in a Travelodge. The Black Boy is a friendly pub where staff and locals will talk to you as if you were a regular. I stayed in a twin room. Not the biggest of rooms but quite adequate, clean and comfortable. Good value for money and very convenient being in the town. There is a small car park (not the easiest to find but staff will give directions). Parking otherwise difficult. I would stay again.
