From the minute I checked in, the staff and locals were so friendly. There aren’t many taxis about so the landlord, Kev, kindly gave me and another couple a lift to the barn where the wedding was!

Needing a few days away we pointed on the map, and came up with Petworth. After looking around at different hotels we like the look of the Stonemasons Inn. Easy to book, so went for it. Wasn't disappointed with accommodation, would definately stay again. Although we knew about Petworth House, we were unaware of the fantastic gardens which were with a five minute walk away and free. For keen walkers this is a must, we would walk then head back to the Stonemasons for a glass of wine. Perfect!! Read less

Separate room just to the side of the main building, giving us our own entrance. The room warm, clean and comfortable.Staff brilliant, nothing was too much trouble, breakfast fantastic, catering for all.
Dislikes:
The bathroom could do with a update, and attention to hot water system is also needed. The owners are new so guessing on there to do list. There is a shower which is perfectly adequate, could be better.

"The Stonemasons Inn is an immediate Home-from-Home!"
Two nights; three couples celebrating the Ladies 60 years of friendship since starting secondary school together. Immediately friendly and comfortable reception from all staff and managemnet. Very welcome guest ale from the bar. Brilliant flavour of past centuries in Dolly Daintree Family room. Absoliute cleanliness and thoughtful tea/coffee makings, tasty biscuits. Odd items of monor impact will be sorted for sure. Our focus was to be evening meals together and Petworth House in between! Read less

THe excellent evening meals and first class breakfasts. The warmth and welcome of all the Stonemason's "Family".
THe good but limited choice of beers and wines- no Merlot? This will improve for sure!
Dislikes:
WE could not stay for a third night! Will remedy this in May/June 2018.

Welcome to The Stonemasons Inn and an exciting new chapter in its long history.

Under new management from April 2013, The Stonemasons Inn has undergone a major refurbishment programme that truly celebrates its rich architectural features whilst providing a relaxing and stylish venue in which to relax and enjoy high quality food and drink, sourced wherever possible from the county of Sussex.

The Stonemasons Inn is truly proud to be a country pub, first and foremost. It's a place where you are always amongst friends, whether you come in on your own or in a group. A warm welcome awaits every visitor whether it's for a quick drink, a light bite or to enjoy a full a la carte dining experience. A programme of exciting events take place throughout the year including live music, quiz nights, beer festivals and much more. Check the Events page for more details.

We welcome guests from all over the world, some of whom stay in our magnificent en-suite accommodation. Each room, which has had its own individual make-over, has an identity taken from past residents - Gentle Harry, Dolly Daintry, Lazy Larry, Mrs Smith and Uncle Jed.

The illustrious history of The Stonemasons Inn is not fully known except as a row of seventeenth century buildings, probably all cottages. It is uncertain when the buildings were first used as a hostelry but the position, on the outskirts of the town and on a busy arterial route, would have been a prime one for many centuries.

Petworth itself predates The Domesday Book (1086) and was earlier known as Peteorde. In medieval times, it was a busy market town and much of its prosperity has been linked to its proximity to Petworth House, built for the Percy family in the fourteenth century and rebuilt by Charles Seymour, Duke of Somerset, between 1688 and 1696.
