"Where is the breakfast?"
My husband was attending a conference at Lydiard House over the weekend and I planned to visit the area with dog in tow. The Red Lion was ideally situated for both - the Thames Path, Avebury, Royal Wootton Bassett, Marlborough and Cirencester are all on the doorstep. And Cricklade is a charming town. Read less

Despite initially being shown to the wrong room, the staff quickly made up a spacious courtyard room for us. A large comfortable bed, large bathroom, good tea & coffee making stuff, free wifi, fridge.
Dislikes:
No breakfast. 9am sat down. 9:10 ordered. 9:30 delay as chef stuck in traffic. 10am chef arrived. 10:10 sorry 15 mins more to wait - chef overslept. We left hungry & cross.

Great room. Good breakfast. Super home brewed beer.
Dislikes:
Only downside was not being able to eat at the restaurant. It would have been good on booking to have received a note to say restaurant is popular and it would be adviseable to pre book.

"Comfort and friendliness where the old world meets modern convenience"
A business trip from the states to London followed immediately by another business to Amsterdam set me up for a spectacular weekend in the Cotswolds. If you take the opportunity to get out of the city hustle and bustle and visit Cricklade, make it a weekend and stay at The Red Lion. Even being a "yank" I felt welcomed as though I'd just been away for some time but had returned to catch up with friends and family. I've never felt more welcome or at home when traveling than here. The accommodation at The Red Lion was amazing - I think I could have had a Rugby Sevens match in the toilet! The bed was very comfortable and the friendly staff made a perfect breakfast each morning.
Dislikes:
Only that I couldn't stay longer. My rating of 3 for cleanliness is because the room could use a good deep cleaning. All the surfaces and main areas were perfectly clean.

"Lovely pub and rooms, let down by breakfast"
Our 2nd time at the Red Lion, having had a fantastic time a few months ago. This time all was again perfect - except at breakfast time, when some kind of major kitchen malfunction seemed to have happened. We waited an hour and were later told it was because the kitchen staff didn't know how to do poached eggs! Rather odd. Read less

If you are over six foot, I’d definitely not book this. The head height is very low especially in the shower
Booked a table for a meal. The place was busy, but after waiting for the starters and another 45 minutes for the main, I walked out
Might I suggest the residents get offered some kind of priority? Very poor
The starter I did have was expensive and average . Read less

Nice enough room with own front door although dark and airless, but the Pub/Restaurant could do with some love. In places it can only be described as tatty. Bar staff average but morning staff very
Dislikes:
Evening good experience was poor though to be fair it wasn’t charged. Not really the point though. The bar tables were sticky which for me is an instant off putter
