Likes:
The room was comfortable, the staff in all areas of the inn were helpful and friendly, and the meals were very good.
Dislikes:
Online it stated that a DVD player was available in every room, but we did not find one in our room. As the TV reception was very poor, it would have been good to watch DVDs instead.

The Spread Eagle is an 18th Century AA 4 Star inn at Stourhead and the decor has bought out the best of this handsome building with stone floors, painted beams and big windows which look out onto a unique courtyard. There are five ensuite bedrooms, all featuring period furniture, handmade soft furnishings, painted with Farrow and Ball soft colours alongside the more modern facilities of direct dial phones, hairdryers, quality towels and toiletries, flat screen TV's with built in DVD players (dvd library available), tea & coffee making trays, radio alarm clocks and Free WIFI

The generous and comfortable bar features 19th Century prints, horse brasses and is warmed by a large blazing log burner in winter, creating a cosy atmosphere, an ideal place to relax after a days walking in the gardens, visiting Alfreds Tower or the greater White Sheet estate.

Our bar offers a choice of 4 local hand pumped Real Ales, Kilmington Ale which is made by the Wessex Brewery less than 2 miles from the Estate, Butcombe Original and guest ales which are currently Stourton Pale and Butcombe Rare Breed. We also have Ashton Press and Lilleys Apple & Pear Ciders on draught and these compliment a range of draught Lagers and Beers, Butcombe Blonde Premium Beer being popular.

The kitchen offers a menu that sources much food local such as Free Range Eggs from St Martins Farm just off the Estate, Wiltshire Game from Tisbury, Steaks and Rare Roasted English Beef from the West Country. Our menus also feature a lot of fish dishes examples being Lyme Bay Scallops and Fillets of Cornish Bream. One of our most popular dishes is a Wiltshire Ploughmans Lunch served with our Homemade Kilmington Ale and Apple Chutney.

We are less than 2 hours drive from London just off the A303 with trains running direct from London Waterloo to Gillingham Dorset every hour and we are then less than 15 mins drive from the station.
