"Good food, room clean but bathroom far too small."
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room, number four was adequate for our needs, but the bathroom was so small that there was no room to dry oneself after a shower without hitting yourself on the washbasin. My wife's pork escalope at dinner was so tough that she could barely cut through it. The chef did offer to cook another, but by that time my wife had eaten half of it and declined the offer. There was a lot of noise outside our door late at night from other guests which woke me up. Read less

"Appalling bedroom."
The bed room was appalling. No duvet (the receptionist thought it strange that I should ask for one!). The pillows smelt. The springs stuck through the mattress. The radiator was hanging off the wall. This room (no 10) should not have been offered to a guest.
Cold water in the morning for my shower.
Quite the most appalling over night stay I have ever had. I thought I could sleep anywhere, I now know I cannot. Read less

The Saracens Head offers accommodation with 12 comfortable bedrooms, each with en suite bathrooms, televisions, telephones and tea-making facilities.

Though the archway at the front of the building which led to the yard at the rear has now been replaced with an imposing doorway, it is not difficult to imagine how it must have been a century or two ago when it looked out across a busy scene in Market Square.

The Saracens Head was certainly in use as an inn of some kind in 1825 and is probably much older. Just how old has sadly not been recorded, but it has been suggested that it was once part of the local manor and stands on the site of an old monastery. There is also believed to be a tunnel (now bricked up) which leads from the cellar, under Market Square and towards St Michael's Church.
