Warminster,

Wiltshire,

The Prince Leopold was acquired by new owners in January 2014 following refurbishment by the previous owners. The Inn enjoys the archetypal setting for an English country inn - standing beside the River Wylye, looking out over the water meadows beyond, and tucked away in a quiet Wiltshire village. That said, we are only 90 minutes from London. The Longleat Estate, the beautiful Gardens at Stourhead, Stonehenge and the historic City of Bath are all just a stones throw away.

Likes:
The candle in my breakfast black pudding for my 70th birthday! Being given soggy bread to feed the trout in the chalk stream that runs through the garden. Watching the swans. Three real ales.
Dislikes:
The water is terrifically hot - but there are warnings about the place. However, kids must take care if washing their hands. The constant traffic in Salisbury!

Just a short way off the A 303 we were in a peaceful setting enjoying a good dinner. Friendly, relaxed service from a small team. Small, but with everything you see en-suite room. Lovely breakfast wit

Staff customer service, in particular Ruth who went out of her way to help in relation to our experience. They were very flexible as to an early breakfast request on our second day.
Dislikes:
My meal on the last night was not up to their usual standard (new chef) but Ruth handled the situation extremely efficiently and courteously

The Prince Leopold is a Victorian Public house built in the heart of the Wylye Valley in 1878. It was named after Queen Victoria's youngest son, who discovered and fell in love with the area after graduating from Oxford in 1875.

The bar area has been panelled as it might have been when originally built and there are pictures and artefacts relating to the period throughout the room. We offer a selection of locally brewed ales at the bar as well as an extensive wine list. Adjacent to the bar is a Victorian style 'snug' complete with leather sofas, log fire, books, newspapers and games. The ideal room to relax in.

The restaurant looks out over the River Wylye and surrounding watermeadows. It will comfortably seat 60 people. Alternatively, guests can chose to eat in one of the smaller pub dining rooms. We offer an a la carte menu which changes daily depending on what is fresh and seasonal, a wide selection of fish dishes, and of course the more traditional pub classics.

The river runs through the garden where guests can relax and simply enjoy the view or feed the ducks and fish!
For younger visitors there is a play park nearby in the village. The bedrooms are also newly refurbished. All are ensuite and have freeview TV, wifi access, tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryers.

Warminster lies to the south west of Salisbury Plain, beneath the chalk downland with its abundant flora and fauna, and at the head of one of Britain's best kept secrets - 'The Wylye Valley' with its attractive villages and historic landscape, so this is an ideal location for walkers with many interesting walks of various lengths in the immediate vicinity. For those who prefer to see the countryside 'seated' -The White Horse Trekking Centre is less than 2 miles away.

If it's culture you seek then the historic towns of Salisbury (20 mins) and Bath (40 mins) are both nearby.
