We stayed for 2 nights in January, with a view to doing some local walking. The weather was against us and walking was restricted. We ate dinner in the pub both evenings and the choice and quality of the food was excellent. Breakfast was great , with non-menu black pudding being found on special request. Beer and wine also good. 'Local' atmosphere in the bar, wood burner and plenty of dogs - all good. Very friendly welcome and service throughout the weekend. Rooms were warm, quiet and comfortable. Great selection of tea bags.

The inn has flagstone floors, roaring open fires and an inglenook fireplace in the oak panelled dining room. A very warm welcome is extended to all - casual passers-by, walkers and their dogs, and visitors to the Peak District.
In the bar you will find traditional cask beers, and a good selection of malt whiskys and wines from around the world to suit all tastes. We offer a large choice of bar meals, but you may prefer to linger a while and take advantage of our oak panelled, candle-lit restaurant which offers an interesting and comprehensive menu.
We offer dishes from the regular menu such as minted lamb casserole and plaice with mushroom sauce, plus "specials" such as roast sea bass with fennel, and wild boar steak with orange game sauce.
Our three superb en-suite bedrooms offer comfortable and private accommodation with a personal access and small sitting area. In addition to one twin/double and one double room we can offer a large family room which can sleep up to four and which boasts a superb 4-Poster bed.
Come and enjoy the quiet luxury of a night in a country inn, a first class restaurant downstairs and the tranquil beauty of the village through which to stroll.
