"Everything we could have hoped for in a village hotel, and more."
We arrived in time for Sunday lunch with a live blues band. We got our room straight after lunch, despite being a couple of hours ahead of check-in time. The room was very comfortable. We stayed one night, and though we had other plans for dinner, we came back for lunch and skittles the next day. East Coker is a beautiful village, and the Helyar Arms obviously puts in a lot of effort to be a major feature of it. Although we were only there 24 hours, they made us feel part of the community. Likes:
The food was excellent (deservedly award-winning) and reasonably priced. Restaurant service was friendly and attentive. The garden and skittle alley were a great place to spend a sunny afternoon.
Dislikes:
Not much. The Wi-Fi didn't reach our room, but that gave us another excuse to pop down into the pub.

"OK room and OK breakfast but not worth the price charged"
The room was perfectly adequate but not particularly comfortable and certainly not worth the price. The cooked breakfast was OK, but the 'continental' breakfast consisted of cereal and a few elderly looking bananas. Not a croissant in sight. The guy waiting on us was friendly but wearing a shabby t-shirt & jeans. Read less

Good location - East Coker is a beautiful village. Good tea and coffee-making facilities in the room. Staff friendly.
Dislikes:
The room was small and cramped with dim lighting and smelled faintly of cigarettes. The shower wasn't very powerful. We couldn't get the television to work.

With its picture postcard setting at the heart of an idyllic village of ham stone buildings and thatched cottages, The Helyar Arms is a happy blend of traditional values and modern comforts. Six charming bedrooms, all with en suite power shower rooms, are extremely welcoming and well equipped with everything from Wi Fi access to complimentary cafetière coffee, and there are plenty of thick towels, quality linen sheets and a choice of pillows, blankets and duvets.
The heavily beamed bar, parts of which date back to the fifteenth century, is the perfect place to enjoy a well kept real ale or one of over 30 wines by the glass. Our food, with the majority of our produce sourced within a 10 mile radius, has won over a dozen awards in the last few years, including Best Country Pub of the Year 2006.
