The choice of hotel was made mainly due to its location regarding both our next port of call and the location we were travelling from. And once we were there we realised what a very interesting history it had and had it fitted in with our plans we would have liked to have stayed longer. Read less

The very warm welcome when we arrived after a very long drive. Ambience of the hotel helped by lovely woodburning stoves in guest sitting room and bedroom. Time taken to show us around garden.

The Old Rectory offers luxury Bed & Breakfast in a historic house. Situated near Boscastle on the beautiful North Cornish coast, within an hours drive of the M5 at Exeter. An ideal base to visit Cornwall's Eden Project, Lanhydrock House, a variety of Cornish gardens, unspoilt beaches and many other Cornish treasures. Our house is surrounded by 3 acres of beautiful mature south facing gardens including a productive Victorian walled garden. Thomas Hardy stayed here as a young architect and met and fell in love with Emma Lavinia Gifford. The romance led to the novel "A Pair of Blue Eyes", and to some of his finest poetry.

Guests are welcome to enjoy a drink in the guests own sitting room, or on our viewing deck over looking the sea and the Valency valley. We are also able to serve evening meals by arrangement in our newly rebuilt conservatory overlooking the garden. All the produce we use is either from the garden or sourced locally and we use Fair Trade products where possible.

The North Cornish coast is well known for its Surf and for those looking for beaches there are several to choose from. Heading north there are: - Strangles, Crackington Haven, Widemouth and 2 beaches at Bude. There are many wonderful pubs full of character, some with live music in the bar on certain evenings and an abundance of eating-places, to suit every pocket.

Come and stay as our guests and enjoy a brush with history. We hope you will leave with "Magic in your eyes" as Thomas Hardy did.

One well behaved dog £8 per stay is allowed in the Old Stable. All rooms have a laundry bag we will wash and air dry any clothes for you free of charge. (for bookings of 2 nights or more)
