16th Century Manor House hosting bed & breakfast, in the heart of Strete village, near Dartmouth, South Devon. Panoramic views across Start Bay to Start Point Lighthouse and the mouth of the river Dart. The location is ideal to explore the South Hams, including the award winning beaches of Slapton Sands and Blackpool Sands, Slapton Ley Nature Reserve and the South West Coast Path. Situated close to Dartmouth, with Torcross, Slapton and Salcome nearby, Strete has two restaurants, one Michelin noted.
Strete Barton House has been sympathetically refurbished with a mix of contemporary and Eastern classical art, luxurious French sleigh beds (including a super-king size four-poster), Egyptian cotton bed linen, silk bed furnishings, featherdown pillows, fluffy white towels, television with DVD/CD player, extensive beverage tray, mineral water and luxury French toiletries.
All bedrooms are spacious double size, one with twin beds. The guest drawing room is filled with sofas and armchairs and an open fireplace. On arrival all our guests are served a cup of tea or coffee and homemade cake in the sitting room or on the terrace overloooking the sea and extensive garden.
Breakfast is served in the dining room overlooking the garden. Full English breakfast is offered using local ingredients, fresh home made fruit salad, home made jams and marmalade, local farm yoghurts and local bread.
Spacious rooms, Inglenook fireplaces and a walled garden with far reaching sea views.
Environmental Statement
At Strete Barton House we aim to protect our environment and have implemented the following initiatives;
Local food: Sausages and bacon from Dartmouth. The sausages are more expensive than you get at a supermarket, but the taste is more than worth the extra cost; Eggs – from hens in the village; Local yoghurts; Tomatoes and mushrooms – from the local farm shop; Fresh bread from a local bakery (supplied by the village store); Homemade cakes, marmalade and jams – made by a lady in the village; Flowers – from our own garden or supplied by a neighbour.
Our electricity supply is on a tariff that is invested in renewable energy.
We recycle our waste into different bags : food and garden waste ; paper waste ; plastics ; non-recylable waste.
All the white goods (washing machine, fridge, freezer, etc.) that we have purchased are at least A rated.
We have installed thermostatic valves on all radiators to minimise fuel use when rooms are not being used.
